Message from the Principal

Thank you for taking the time to look at our school website.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Roger Irvine and I am delighted, honoured and humbled to be appointed as the new principal of Kircubbin Integrated Primary School.  I felt a real sense of calling twenty years previously to become a teacher as I very much enjoy working with children and now, as I embark on this new challenge, I have the same strong sense of calling to this particular post.  I fully subscribe to the core principles of integrated education and believe this to be the best way forward for all of our children as we in ‘our wee country’ continue to learn from the mistakes of our past in a new era of peace and inclusion.

As principal of Kircubbin Integrated Primary School I will endeavour to maintain the already high standards of achievement from our pupils.  I believe that teaching is futile unless our children feel safe, secure and loved.  A happy child is a receptive child, one who can reach their full potential and become a responsible future citizen.  I am therefore delighted to be able to serve a very committed, professional and friendly team of staff and governors who work tirelessly for the benefit of all in their care.

It is crucial that we prepare our children for the future.  To this end, I fully support a holistic approach to learning where children get as many varied opportunities as possible to discover more about themselves and where their skills, talents and interests lie.  Consequently, I am thrilled that we can offer our pupils such a broad and balanced curriculum that includes the provision of iPads on a ‘one-to-one’ basis and the teaching of Spanish from P2-P7, as well as a host of extra curricular activities including my own favourite pastimes of sport and music.

Below and in navigating through this website, you will find out about some of the many activities we have on offer.  However, this can only give you a little flavour of 'KIPS' life. If you would like to find out more about us and what we offer, I would be delighted to meet with you and show you around our excellent facilities.  You will always be made to feel welcome at Kircubbin Integrated Primary School.

Hasta luego!

Kind regards,

Roger Irvine

Did you know?

Kircubbin Integrated Primary school transformed to its integrated status in September 1998 and we have a current enrolment of 202 pupils. We are situated on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down.

The school has rapidly grown in recent times and a multi-stage extension project which added to the original school building has left us with the school we have today. The extension project modernised the original four classrooms and added three new classrooms and a new assembly hall/gym. As part of the project Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (P1-P3) now have access to a dedicated play area which will be used to develop play based learning. Our provision for outdoor play is also extremely well resourced, with our eight stage outdoor play equipment project now completed. The children can use this amazing facility at break and lunch time as well as after school. The teachers even bring classes out to burn off extra steam between lessons. It's a great way to keep fit!

We are determined to embrace the new technologies that all schools need and have recently invested in a range of new resources. The school is equipped with a recently refurbished dedicated computer suite/library. The computer suite includes 30 PCs, enabling all pupils to have individual access to a PC when visiting. Every class is also equipped with laptops, interactive whiteboards, a full set of iPads (enabling 'one-to-one' engagement and Apple TV. This state of the art technology allows pupils to engage with their learning through a variety of formats. The Apple TV combined with the iPad, enables pupils to quickly share their work with the rest of the class through the interactive whiteboard. We also have 12 Sphero SPRK+ and iMats, wonderful resources for developing key coding skills in the classroom.

Our After School Club runs from 2pm (P1-P3) or 3pm (P4-P7). The children enjoy a wide range of activities including creative play, art and craft, table top games, rest area, indoor and outdoor games, gardening, drama, reading, computers, music etc. Outings e.g. Mookie World and Paint Me Glaze Me are arranged at no additional cost and members enjoy trips to the adjoining play park as well as our extensive school grounds - sand pit, climbing frame, playground games, football pitch, soft play area etc.

To facilitate further planning, if you know of anyone interested in enrolling a child here please suggest contacting school on 028 42738491.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to leave comments in the Guestbook, use the enquiry form or Contact the school directly.
